Unique Gas-Saving Tips for Families

Families who are on budgets can save gasoline and money by doing a few easy things.

Fill your tank every time you get gasoline.

Do not get a little bit of gas, thinking the price may drop. It may just go up. And any money you save next time will be wasted by stopping more frequently to get gas. Most people do not live on the exact same route as the nearest gas station. More out of the way driving equals more gas used.

Do normal errands only once a week, or even less, and use your computer.

Choose a day that you can do all things such as banking, post office grocery shopping, etc. Do not come home until you complete them all. A warmed-up car uses less gas. And most people live some distance from normal places to do errands. Making less round trips will use less gas.

As far as banking goes, get direct deposit and do your banking and bill paying online. This is free and uses no gas!

You can also order stamps online. Most neighborhoods have a post office drop off box within walking distance. You may never need to go to the post office again!

Shop at a store that carries all you need.

Quite a few retailers now combine grocery and department stores into one building. Driving to one store instead of two will save gas. If one of these mega-stores is not near you, many outdoor malls have a good combination of stores now. This means driving to one place and doing a little walking. Save gas and exercise at the same time.

You should also put a piece of paper on the front of your refrigerator. This is for a list of all items you need to purchase. As soon as you know you need something, such as toothpaste, you write it down. Go to the stores only one day a week and take this list. That way you will not be making special trips for one item.

Let the kids walk!

Do you drive a couple of blocks to take the kids to school? Why? Let them walk. If safety is a concern, maybe you or a neighbor can walk with them. Bicycles are another option.

In conclusion, you should now realize that along with the normal ways of saving gas, there are quite a lot of things that you can do differently that will save you real money on gasoline.
