But it is still an option and many private schools advertise this way. First, contact your local college of teacher education. They will have a complete list of all local districts that are hiring, as well as some that are a little farther. If you are getting your credential, you may be student teaching. Ask your district if they are hiring. You will have a leg up, as you are familiar with the schools and district already. You may even be offered a job while you are getting your credential. In fact, looking for a job while in college is one of the best things you can do to find a teaching job.Second best place to start is actually with the local school district. Many schools do not publicize all teaching job openings. Stop by their personnel office and get the updated listings. Almost every city has it's own school district. Some even have more than one. If you live in a populous state like California, New York, Florida, New Jersey, you will have more options. It can be hard to get a regular teaching job in a low populated state. Supply and demand actually kicks in. Large states have the schools and higher turn over rates for teachers. You may need to think about moving. But check with the state you are moving to and see if your teaching certificate transfers over easily. I know from many people that have come to California to teach that they are asked to jump through hoops. Be prepared.
